Project Server 2013 My Tasks

In project server 2013 a new feature called My Tasks allows users to review their SharePoint, Project Server, and Outlook/Exchange tasks in central location or in a user's personal site and thus users can review all things at a single location instead navigating to different lists, sites, and site collections to view and edit both SharePoint Server and Project Server tasks.

One can update existing Project Server assignments using My Task functionality; however the results are synchronized to Project Server 2013. E.g. when any updates in assignment status of a Project Server 2013 task to Complete, the changes directly forwarded to Project Server 2013.

In SharePoint Server 2013, the Work Management Shared Service provides the functionality for the My Tasks page, where Work Management Shared Service helps to aggregate SharePoint tasks by Enterprise Search and Project Server task assignments by the Project application service. However tasks are also pushed in other applications for which they are configured like outlook or mobile device which is in sync with the Exchange server and one can also synchronize tasks to mail box from SharePoint Server, exchange server as well as from My Site.

There are some exciting features in My Tasks page manage the tasks like,
  • Project Timeline: This is a visual representation of recent and upcoming tasks with default view of one week into the past and three weeks into the future. However it can be configured via the settings page.
  • Filters: Tasks can also be filtered by keyword search and other different settings, including by project, flagged and upcoming tasks, active tasks, new tasks, completed tasks, timesheet tasks, and task status reporting. .
  • Important tasks: You can set a flag as an "Important" flag for specific tasks and can review in main view however flags automatically get expired by time to maintain the list of important tasks current.
