Office professional plus for office 365

Office Professional Plus, is available as part of Office 365. Office 365 also includes Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, and Lync Online. This is the full evaluation version of Office – not just web apps. You will be able to use Office 365 ProPlus applications and manage up to 25 users with a trial account.

Office 365 is a set of subscription-based products for business, home, or school that require periodic payments to Microsoft to use the products.

Most Office 365 subscription plans include a subscription to Microsoft Office applications, allowing subscribers to upgrade the Microsoft Office applications without extra cost as a benefit of their subscription. By contrast, one who makes a one-time purchase of the Microsoft Office applications (i.e., not part of an Office 365 subscription plan) typically would not receive a free upgrade when a new version of the Microsoft Office applications is released.

With Office Professional Plus, users get the latest version of the Office applications, seamlessly connected and delivered with cloud services, and they can access their documents, email, and calendars from virtually any device.

Processors that are 64-bit are becoming the standard for systems that range from servers to desktop computers. The 64-bit systems can use more virtual and physical memory than 32-bit systems. These let users work with much larger data sets than they could previously, and to analyse and solve large computational problems. Office 2010 introduced native 64-bit versions of Office products to take advantage of this larger capacity. The 32-bit version of Office 2013 provides the same functionality as the 64-bit version and is also compatible with 32-bit add-ins. By default, the 32-bit version of Office 2013 is installed and is the recommended installation.

  • Users in your organization depend on existing extensions to Office, such as ActiveX controls, third-party add-ins, in-house solutions that were built on earlier versions of Office, or 32-bit versions of programs that interface directly with Office, install 32-bit Office 2013 (the default installation) on computers that run both 32-bit and 64-bit supported Windows operating systems.
  • If some users in your organization are Excel expert users who work with complex Excel spreadsheets, they can install the 64-bit (x64) edition of Office 2013 to move beyond the 2 GB addressable memory boundary that is imposed on 32-bit editions. Note that this boundary differs from the physical (on disk) size of the spreadsheet on your computer's hard disk drive. It is possible to have an Excel file whose size on disk is smaller than 2 GB, but which, when the file is opened, contains enough data to occupy 2 GB or more of addressable memory. In addition, if you have in-house solution developers, we recommend that those developers have access to the 64-bit edition of Office 2013 so that they can test and update in-house solutions on the 64-bit edition of Office 2013.

The Office 365 deployment library contains resources and guides to help you understand the requirements and workflows for deploying Office 365 to your organization. The delivery technology for Office 365 ProPlus is known as Click-to-Run. This is a Microsoft streaming and virtualization technology which reduces the time that is required to install Office and allows users to run another version of Office on the same computer.

The easiest way to start an Office 365 deployment is to use a pilot. The Office 365 Deployment Centre provides step-by-step instructions to build a pilot that will grow into a full deployment. After the pilot phase of the deployment, the following table summarizes the environment requirements and configurations for the three types of Office 365 deployments: Basic, Advanced, and Dedicated Plans. Be aware that each of these deployment scenarios is associated with a particular Office 365 subscription plan.

Traditional Windows Installer-based enterprise deployments of Office may take a year to deploy in production environments. By using Office 365 ProPlus, you can help minimize downtime while you conduct testing. Click-to-Run supports side-by-side installations of Office which means that you won’t have to uninstall earlier versions of Office to test Office 2013. We recommend that you use side-by-side installations only as part of your Office testing and pilots before you deploy it, and not as a long-term solution for your production environment. When you start deployment to production, you should uninstall, or have users uninstall, the earlier versions of Office that are installed on their computers.

Office 365 ProPlus components and interactions

Office 365 ProPlus includes new activation technology that enables a monthly subscription model. Every month, Office 365 ProPlus automatically verifies the status of a user’s subscription. The validation process requires Internet access.

  • If a user has a valid subscription, Office 365 ProPlus is activated for another 30 days.
  • If the user’s subscription cannot be verified, Office 365 ProPlus enters a 30 day grace period.
  • During the 30 day grace period, Office 365 ProPlus tries to verify a user’s subscription every 24 hours. If, by the end of the 30 grace period, Office 365 ProPlus still cannot verify the status of a user’s subscription, Office 365 ProPlus enters Reduced Functionality Mode.

Licensing and activation

The flexible pay-as-you-go, per-user licensing of Office Professional Plus provides your organization with purchasing flexibility. When a user's Office 365 ProPlus subscription is cancelled, Office enters or read-only mode. In contrast to the traditional Office 2013 client activation, which requires the user to enter the 25 character product key, Office 365 ProPlus automatically obtains a product key and activates it. Office 365 ProPlus subscription allows customers to purchase monthly licenses for each user. Each user license gives users five synchronized installations using the same user ID and password.
